On monday Januari 28th, Amsterdam ferry IJveer 63 was christened and put into service by GVB.
During the christening ceremony the vessel was named after mayor Eberhard van der Laan, who has recently passed away.
It's the first time GVB has named a vessel after a person. Van der Laan was known for his ability to unite, and the idea of naming this vessel after him was partly at suggestion of a large part of the Amsterdam community.
The IJveer 63 is fourth in a series of ferries and has been operational since Januari 29th.
